What Pants to Wear With a Cream Sweater Dress
The great thing about the sweater dress is that you can wear it however you prefer, with whatever you want, and whenever you like, in endless textures, patterns and styles, and in countless colours. You can accessorise freely, and on cold days you can use it as a base for cosy layers. So there are lots of cool ways to work this look for winter 2015.
Embrace the slouchy variety for its easy-to-wear qualities, with style choices that include split skirts, turtle necks and sculpted sleeves. Cinch the waist with a clunky belt to give it some shape, slip on some stilettos for added class, and match the chunkiness with an oversized bag.
For a different vibe, stay with a loose fit, but ditch the thick knit in favour of a more sheer consistency, and team it with a blazer or a faux fur coat. Offset any tendency to over-smooth matters with opaque or patterned tights, and perhaps layer it further with over-the-knee socks.
Team a mini length with thigh-high boots and top with a fedora, or wear with shorts. Pull on leather trousers as an alternative, like Olivia Palermo (check out the leopard spot shoes!). Layer with a jacket or cardigan and scarf, or copy the animal print mini that Claudia Schiffer rocked with black tights and ankle boots.
Vary textures with squares, diamond or rib. Drag a sheepskin flying jacket over an Aran-style knit, or combine a cable jumper with a pencil skirt for the working day. Bring in some bright contrasting colours, and introduce shape by way of a faux leather belt. Search out patterns, whether it's zigzag, geometric, or whatever. Throw a boyfriend blazer over a Breton-type hooped sweater dress, and accessorise with an animal print scarf.
If you're going for a slinky fitted number, add a figure-hugging narrow belt, and complete with a fuzzy vest and skinny jeans, or leather pants. A pre-bump Blake Lively married her pale grey sweater dress with a tan bomber to stunning effect. Go dressy for evening in an off-the-shoulder affair with a pair of statement earrings, a shiny clutch and killer heels.
Cover angora with a leather jacket and over-the-knee socks. Contrast textures with different thicknesses of knits, or with other fabrics such as skin or metallic. We think you've got the picture by now, and we'll be looking out for you on the streets!
